Utah Student Loans

Utah students seeking a higher education can apply for one of two assistance programs through the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority.

The first program, Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP), is a campus-based grant. Select schools offer grants to students meeting qualification guidelines as dictated by the U.S. Department of Education. The maximum amount of funding a student can receive through the LEAP is $2,500. Secondly, students can apply for the Utah Centennial Opportunity Program for Education Grant (UCOPE). Funding comes directly from the state and is paid for by Utah residents.

To apply, students must fill out a Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA). Grants are awarded on a first come, first serve basis so applicants are encouraged to apply as early in the calendar year as possible. The grant programs also limit students to the schools they can attend.

Students not planning on attending one of the schools participating in the grant programs (or those who don’t receive assistance) can seek financial funding through the U.S. Department of Education. The federal government offers students the opportunity to qualify for a federal grant and various student loan programs.
